3 Things You Need To Know About Structured Cabling
1. Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7, Cat8 Cabling
Every system needs cables that connect devices to a network, but you need cables with top speed to keep up with competition and keep employees productive. These are used for phone and video signal transmission – which is great for running hosted phone systems and collaboration software. Category 5e Augmented Cable is an improvement to the original Cat5 Ethernet Cable. It has speeds up to 1.000 Mbit/s, 100MHz. The Cat6 has a speed up to 1.000 Mbit/s, 250MHz and has a higher signal-to-noise ratio than the CAT5e. Cat6a supports data rates of 10 Gigabit for the full 328 feet distance. The Cat7 has a speed up to 10.000 Mbit/s, 1.000MHz and uses a proprietary connector. Cat8 cabling is faster throughput over short distances. Overall, Cat6 and Cat6a are the most popular amongst businesses.
2. Fiber Optic Cabling
Instead of the usual copper wire networks, many people are opting for sources with glass cores that work off total internal reflection. Fiber Optic Cables come in two forms, Single Mode Fiber and Multi-Mode Fiber – the biggest difference being the size of the glass core. They have high carrying capacity and do not give off heat. Fiber Optic Cables have very low transmission losses and are immune to electromagnetic interference. They are able to improve telephone efficiency, being able to handle thousands of conversations concurrently. Network connections are improved with increased accuracy and speed of data transmission as well.
3. Wireless Infrastructure
Our lives are surrounded by wireless connections. Your business can be wireless too with an Access Point delivering Wi-Fi to employees and customers. Extenders and Bridges are available with most providers to improve the range of the signal. The Access Point can be locally or remotely managed with the accompanying application and can broadcast up to eight WiFi networks.
